Where to stay in Mérida, Ometepe

Sunny Garden Lodge is a two-room family B&B in Mérida, Isla de Ometepe, Nicaragua, on the Maderas side of the island. Here is what you need to know before you come.

The lodge: a covered porch with wooden posts, with grass and banana trees out front.

Where it is

The lodge sits in Mérida, on the Maderas side of Isla de Ometepe, with a view of Concepción across the land and lake.

How to get here

Take the ferry from San Jorge to Moyogalpa, about an hour. From Moyogalpa it is about an hour by road to Mérida. The roads toward Mérida are partly unpaved and bumpy. Noldan can arrange a taxi from the port or from anywhere in Nicaragua.

Getting around Mérida

Mérida has little public transport, so plan on a taxi or a scooter, arranged through Noldan. Roads around Mérida are gravel, so a motorbike or ATV handles them better than a scooter. Try to be back before dark, since some stretches have little or no lighting.

The rooms

Two private rooms, each with its own bathroom. Fans rather than air conditioning, and no hot water.

Breakfast is included for guests.

Nearby

Playa Mangos is about 5 minutes away, according to a guest on Google. For the rest of the island, see things to do.
